Minutarian Week 18: October 31, 2022

What an exciting week in District 6970. We began celebrating Jonas Salk’s (the developer of the first polio vaccine) birthday on October 24. This has now become World Polio Day. I shared this celebration on Wednesday evening with Polio co-chairs Rich and Marie Turnbull, Tricia Kreis and 40 other Rotarians from St. Augustine.

A highlight of the week happened at the Rotary Club of San Marco where I gave a Paul Harris Fellow +5 to Past President and my dear friend Meg Folds for all her dedicated support of youth in Northeast Florida and our RYLA program in particular.

At the Rotary Club of Flagler County, Assistant Governor Maralee Walsh-McDaniel joined me along with President-Elect Charles McDaniel and President Jay Gardner to recognize Katie Lenhart with a Paul Harris Fellow +4 and Trevor Tucker with a Paul Harris Fellow +2.

This week continued to be special as we inducted new members. As we see membership declines at some clubs, we often think that membership is the responsibility of the membership chair. In reality, membership is the responsibility of everyone in the club. When was the last time you sponsored a member? At the Rotary Club of Flagler County, I had the pleasure of inducting David Alfin and Ken Yarbrough as new members.

At the Satellite Club of Flagler Beach-Bunnell, President, Nealon Joseph joined me as we inducted Cathy Heighter as a Rotarian.

Ok, we have sold out for the Jaguars game on November 6. We need your ticket forms and payment ASAP for November 27 and January 8. We have a lot of tickets available in the upper bowl for both games, in addition to the lower bowl tickets. If you are not attending, this is a great way to buy tickets (get the End Polio credit) and give the tickets to an Interactor, Rotaractor or veteran.

Thanks, President Dan Westra and the Rotary Club of Amelia Island Sunrise for the wonderful fellowship and lobsters 🦞. What a great fundraiser.

Just a reminder that those clubs who have not yet attended PETS1, your final opportunity is Saturday November 5 at the University of North Florida. Contact DGE John Tabor with questions.

Pictures of the Week
This was a very special treat to present Past President Logan McEwen the banner for 100% club participation in the Rotary Foundation. Thanks for the support from Assistant Governors Bea Fore and Gerry Kelly. President Tad Delegal seemed to think that he could keep the Angels Envy Bourbon—not no fast counselor! Show me the membership numbers!

A fun lunch with The Rotary Club of Flagler County President Jay Gardner, Past District Governor Rich Cooper and Past District Governor and Rotary District 6970 Foundation Chair Jeanette Loftus.

District Governor-Nominee Mickey Ulmer joined President Nealon Joseph and me with the Satellite Club of Flagler Beach-Bunnell.

After visiting President John Gibboney and the Rotary Club of Ocala Silver Springs, Assistant Governor Al Formella took me on a tour of all of the parks and educational places sponsored by Ocala Rotary Clubs—wow!!

Assistant Governors Karla Grimsley and Al Formella joined President-Elect Patricia Sutton for a fun evening with the Rotary Club of Ocala Sunset. President Lacy Redd the hearts and prayers of all Rotarians go out to you and your family over the tragic loss to your family.
